A Special Family Gathering
My wonderful husband arranged for his Mom and niece to be in Dallas so we could tell them the baby news in person. He made reservations for Friday night at Cru Wine Bar.
We made copies of the sonogram pictures and put them in cards for our parents. It's customary for his Mom and my family to exchange small gifts when we see each other. So we knew exchanging the gifts at dinner would be a perfect time to sneak in the cards. We told my parents a few weeks earlier over Bubba's chicken and the Cotton Bowl so this was their second celebration!
On Friday night the gift exchange commenced and we handed our parents their cards. When Rosa Hilda started to open her card she had no idea what would be inside and her reaction was priceless. She cried and it was a really nice moment for our whole family. (Good job husband!)

Baby in 3D
Last week I had some concerns, and the nurse decided I should come in for a sonogram on Tuesday. My doctor was out of the country on a mission trip so I was scheduled to see Dr. Gaitonde. OH. MY. GOODNESS. Dr. Gaitonde had the biggest baddest sonogram machine ever. We could see our little shrimp so clearly on the big screen, and if that wasn't enough the sonographer turned on the 3D feature!

Dr. Gaitonde said the baby looked great! The heart beat was strong and it had grown the appropriate amount. Music to out ears!
I have a negative blood type so the doctor recommended I get the Rhogam shot. My progesterone levels were a little low so I am now taking supplements.
We loved being able to see the baby, especially in 3D!

The First Sonogram
The long awaited first sonogram. I literally counted down the days, hours and minutes until our appointment. Seriously, the longest two weeks of my life!
On January 11th Guillermo and I anxiously awaited my name to be called in the doctor's office. I was nervous and fidgety and I finally got settled with a magazine when the nurse said "Brandy Femat". We jumped up.
After the nurse took my blood pressure and weighed me we continued our wait for Dr. Harris. I was nervous before, but now I was a nervous wreck. Guillermo developed temporary ADD and literally touched everything in the room including the pregnancy wheel, sonogram machine and replica of life size uterus. Finally, Dr. Harris arrived! He congratulated us, explained how the sonogram would work and it was show time.
We saw our baby for the first time. Wow. Then we heard the heart beat. Wow. That day everything was real. Thank you God for this opportunity.
Here is our little tadpole:

The doctor measured the baby and told us our projected due date would be August 29, 2013.
I wish I could get a sonogram everyday.
The heart beat sounded perfect and we are on cloud nine.
We're having a baby!
That is right folks! Guillermo and I are having a baby. I am 8 weeks and 5 days and already so much has happened. I have been poked, prodded, and said words like uterus and vaginal (in front of my husband) more times than I would like to count. This blog is a space for me to capture all of those glorious memories, and hopefully share them.
I feel so blessed and thankful to be going through this experience. God is so good. Being a Mom is a dream of mine. I can say, in my short experience, pregnancy is hard. My baby may only be the size of a green olive, but I have already started worrying about him/her. Quickly, I have found out there is no way I will get through this experience without God!
FAQS
When did we find out?
This Christmas we went to Vail with my parents. On December 26th we started driving back to Dallas (at 6am!) and made it home around 10pm, but before home there needed to be a Walgreen's stop!
I had taken a pregnancy test on Dec 14th and it was negative. So we thought that was that and better luck next month, but I still hadn't had my visit from mother nature on Dec 26th. So that evening while Guillermo took Bear outside I took another test. After giving myself a mini-lecture to not be disappointed...blah blah...TWO LINES appeared. I had a dance party in the bathroom and then RAN outside to tell Guillermo!
The next morning I took another test with a positive result and called my doctor. I went to the doctor the following day to give blood to verify pregnancy.
Dr. Harris called the next day and said congrats :)
Pregnancy symptoms:
Luckily, I haven't had full blown morning sickness. I do get queasy after eating though.
Pregnancy cravings:
Rice dishes.
Rice and beans
Sweet & Sour Chicken and rice
Rice and beans
Sweet & Sour Chicken and rice
I do pride myself on eating healthy and it's a lot easier to cut out the non-friendly pregnancy foods than I thought. I do miss my full blown mocha, but decaf will do just fine for now.
The Husband:
I must say he is doing great, and letting me and baby pick all the restaurants :) He is such a keeper.
Thanks for reading.
Love,
Brandy
